Our
first Sabbath, we have the wonderful opportunity of attending the new
El Nido Seventh-Day Adventist Central Church. First, we walk 10
minutes across town. Next we squeeze through an alley between a
fence and a hotel.
Then
comes the best part—the walk across the beach. The El Nido church is
situated just above the ocean. The view is beautiful.
Filipinos
love signs. Before the church was even finished, they had this sign
made. We like how they put "Central Church". It shows they expect so
much growth, that they will need another church!
This
year we have the wonderful privilege of working with Pastor Job
Fabelar again. He was a pastor we met in Roxas for the first mission
experience. He is now the pastor of the El Nido church, plus 10 others
in Northern Palawan. His easy smile and optimistic attitude encouraged
all of us.
Before
we arrived in the Philippines, Mr. Evert told Ted that they should
both be prepared to do something up front at church. He just knew they
were going to be asked. Can you guess what Mr. Evert is doing here?
Preaching the sermon the first Sabbath we are in El Nido!
Although
the El Nido church doesn't have side walls, it has a roof. And, in a
place that has rain for half the year, that's important!
After church, everyone wants to shake our hands and wish us a "Happy
Sabbath." We ask them how to say Happy Sabbath in Tagalog, and they
smile and say "Happy Sabbath!", apparently they only know how
to say it in English!
