A
team of doctors and other medical professionals from Palawan Adventist
Hospital volunteered their time to put on a free medical clinic. What
a blessing! The Medical Missionary team had the wonderful experience of working with them, doing hands-on
work.
Some
of us had a chance to work with the dentist, even pulling teeth! Yes,
the patients' mouths were numb.
Another first time experience for the medical missionaries was assisting in
surgery. They acted as surgical assistant with many different
types of surgery, including cyst removals.
Although some of
the surgeries were a bit gruesome, our medical missionary team did a
good job assisting the surgeon.
During
the evening meetings the medical missionaries presented the health talks. We had a wonderful translator, Pastor Diesta. It was amazing how
he could remember every body part that was listed and every illness that
was mentioned and then repeat it in Tagalog (the predominant Filipino language).
The
health topics covered a wide range of topics, such as teeth, the
importance of keeping yourself hydrated, internal parasites,
cleanliness, smoking, and diet.
It
was a new experience for some of the youth to get up front and speak, but God blessed
each person with strength to fight their jittery nerves and speak loudly and
clearly.
