This one of the many sights you will see in the Philippines. On these trays are drying fish. Fish is a staple in the Filipinos' diet. For much of the population, fishing is the primary livelihood.

We had many experiences with critters in our cabins and round about. We had geckos barking at us day and night. There were rats and spiders living in some of the cabins, and even some snakes slithering through the grass.

Cleaning the beach was almost an everyday occurrence. The Filipinos use the caribou, or water buffalo, to help them with this chore. These animals are seen, most of the time, tied near water in the rice paddies and fields.

In our travels we found ourselves riding in quite unique vehicles. This is a vehicle called a Jeepney. Two times in one trip this Jeepney had to stop for repairs. At one point the tire went flat, but fortunately they had a spare tied to the roof. Another time the Jeepney stopped completely, and a man opened the hood and jumped inside to try to fix the problem. Eventually he got it going and we were on the road again!

Another mode of transportation we used at one point or another in our experience was called a tricycle. A tricycle is a small motorcycle with a cab hooked onto it. This is one of the most common modes of transportation that you see families using in the Philippines. You may see 5-6 people squished into this little vehicle.

Here is the beautiful view that we enjoyed almost every day. We also enjoyed taking rides in these bangkas, somewhat like an outrigger boat. The whole mission experience was a wonderful time that helped us grow closer to the Lord and learn to allow Him to work through us. We would love to see you on the mission experience! Come and see what God can do through you!
