(If you know of any things/habits/attitudes/sins in your life that you need to give up in order to gain Christ, list them
on a sheet of paper.)
If you can answer “yes” to these questions, you have started on an exciting walk with the Lord! You can expect Him to do wonderful things in your life.
If you must answer “no” to any or all of these questions, remember that “it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). If all you can do is ask Him to help you to be willing to be made willing, He will work with that.
So often, we look forward to Heaven as being the time when we can have true joy and happiness, but Heaven can begin here on Earth. We will still have trials and difficult decisions. Things won’t always be perfect. (Of course, this is also true for those who don’t follow Christ.) But Christ has promised to turn even the worst things around, and work them for our good (Romans 8:28).
You will find times when a decision to follow God will be a struggle. You may feel that God is wrong in what He’s asking you to do, or that what He wants isn’t important. But when we stop and think about how much God loves us, and how much He wants the best for us, we know we can trust Him. And when we ask Him for help, He will always give us the power to choose to do right.
God always makes it worthwhile to follow Him. Just look around in the world—we see misery, stress, fear. Then think about what Christ has offered to those who love Him! He says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). This peace and confidence is what the world is seeking. This peace comes from gaining Christ. When you have it, you know it’s worth any price to keep it!
